How to Get to Huinnyeoul Culture Village from Nampo Station

The easiest way to get to Huinnyeoul Culture Village from Nampo Station is to leave Busan Metro Line 1 through Exit 6, walk to the nearby bus stop, and take bus 7, 71, or 508 toward Yeongdo. Get off at Baengnyeonsa Temple or Huinnyeoul Culture Village, following the live stop recommended by your navigation app. The bus ride is usually around 12–20 minutes, then you walk downhill for a few minutes toward the sea.

Huinnyeoul is not beside a subway station. It sits on the ocean-facing slope of Yeongdo, with an upper road, narrow residential lanes, steep stairways, and the lower Jeoryeong Coastal Trail. The main travel problem is choosing where to enter and exit. This guide gives you a low-stress route, the Korean names to save, a walking direction that avoids unnecessary climbing, and realistic combinations for a half-day in western Busan.

Nampo Station to Huinnyeoul at a glance

  • Starting point: Nampo Station (남포역), Line 1, Exit 6
  • Common buses: 7, 71, or 508
  • Useful stops: Huinnyeoul Culture Village or Baengnyeonsa Temple
  • Bus time: roughly 12–20 minutes, depending on traffic
  • Korean destination: 흰여울문화마을
  • Time to spend: about 1.5–2.5 hours

Bus routes and stop names can change, so check the live route on the day. My Korea travel apps guide explains why Naver Map or KakaoMap is more useful locally than relying on a saved foreign map.

Step-by-step route from Nampo Station

1. Leave Nampo Station through Exit 6

Nampo Station is on Busan Metro Line 1 and is close to Jagalchi, BIFF Square, and Yeongdo Bridge. Exit 6 is the practical side for buses crossing onto Yeongdo. Once above ground, search 흰여울문화마을 in your navigation app and walk to the exact stop it shows.

2. Take bus 7, 71, or 508

Official Busan tourism guidance commonly lists buses 7, 71, and 508 from the Nampo area. Other buses may also appear in live results. Use whichever option arrives soon and stops near the upper village entrance. Before boarding, compare the Korean destination and direction; the same route number on the opposite side of the road travels away from Yeongdo.

Tap your transit card when boarding and again when leaving. The bus crosses Yeongdo Bridge and climbs along the island. Watch the live stop sequence rather than waiting to recognize the village from the window.

3. Get off near the upper village

Depending on the route, the app may recommend the Huinnyeoul Culture Village stop or Baengnyeonsa Temple in Yeongseon-dong. From the road, signs and stairs lead toward the ocean-facing lanes. Starting high is useful because you can explore gradually downhill instead of beginning at sea level and climbing immediately.

Should you take a taxi?

A taxi from Nampo is convenient for two to four people, travelers with children, or anyone short on time. Ask for 흰여울문화마을 and choose a pin near the upper entrance. Do not ask only for “Yeongdo,” which is an entire district.

The taxi does not remove all walking. Huinnyeoul’s best-known lanes and coastal path include stairs, slopes, and narrow passages where cars cannot enter. People with limited mobility can enjoy upper-road viewpoints and cafés but may find the full coastal route difficult.

The best walking direction

For a first visit, start on the upper village lane, enjoy the ocean views and cafés, then descend one of the marked stairways to the Jeoryeong Coastal Trail. Walk only as far as your energy and return plan allow. You do not need to complete every section.

  1. Enter from the upper road near the bus stop.
  2. Walk the main village lane and stop at one viewpoint.
  3. Use a marked staircase to reach the coastal trail.
  4. Visit the colorful coastal tunnel if it is open and conditions are safe.
  5. Return by a signed staircase or continue toward your planned bus stop.

Avoid going down the first staircase you see without checking where it reconnects. The sea-level trail is beautiful, but climbing back can be demanding in summer heat.

How much time do you need?

Allow 1.5–2.5 hours. A fast visitor can see the upper lane and one coastal section in about an hour, while photographers and café visitors may stay three hours. Add transport time separately.

Morning is quieter and cooler. Late afternoon offers attractive light over the sea, but do not enter an isolated lower section close to darkness. Strong wind, heavy rain, high waves, or maintenance can affect coastal access. Follow local barriers even if your saved itinerary says a tunnel should be open.

Huinnyeoul vs Gamcheon Culture Village

Gamcheon is larger, more colorful, and better known for hillside roof views and art alleys. Huinnyeoul feels more linear and coastal, with white walls, cafés, stairways, and a sea-level trail. If you want the classic colorful Busan panorama, choose Gamcheon. If you want ocean scenery and a slower walk, choose Huinnyeoul.

Doing both in one day is possible because they are in western Busan, but it creates more bus transfers and stairs than many visitors expect. If you decide to compare them, use my Busan Station to Gamcheon Culture Village guide and allow a real lunch break.

What to combine with Huinnyeoul

The easiest combination is Nampo-dong: Jagalchi Market, BIFF Square, Gukje Market, or Yongdusan Park. Visit Huinnyeoul in the morning, take the bus back across Yeongdo Bridge, then eat and explore around Nampo.

Taejongdae is also on Yeongdo, but it lies farther south and needs additional bus time. Combine the two only if Yeongdo is your main theme for the day. Oryukdo is in another part of Busan; use my Oryukdo Skywalk bus guide on a separate coastal day.

What to bring

  • Comfortable shoes with grip
  • Water, especially from June through September
  • Sun protection; much of the coastal path is exposed
  • A light wind layer in cooler months
  • A charged phone with live navigation
  • A small bag rather than rolling luggage

There are cafés and small shops, but this remains a residential neighborhood. Keep noise low, do not block doors, and never photograph inside homes. Buy from local businesses if you use their terraces or photo areas.

How to return to Nampo or Busan Station

Climb back to the upper road and check the next bus toward Nampo Station. Because several stops serve the long village area, let the navigation app choose the nearest safe uphill connection. From Nampo, Line 1 reaches Busan Station in a few stops.

If you have a reserved KTX, leave a wide buffer. Weekend traffic around Yeongdo Bridge and Nampo can slow buses. A taxi from the upper road is a sensible backup, but finding one is easier before you descend to the coastal trail.

Common mistakes

  • Searching only “Huinnyeoul” without saving the Korean name
  • Boarding the correct bus number in the wrong direction
  • Descending to the coast without planning the climb back
  • Bringing a suitcase or stroller for the full walking route
  • Ignoring barriers during wind or high-wave conditions
  • Trying to combine both ends of Busan in one short day

FAQ: getting to Huinnyeoul Culture Village

What is the nearest subway station?

Nampo Station on Line 1 is the most useful subway connection, but you must transfer to a bus or taxi because Huinnyeoul has no metro station.

Which Nampo Station exit should I use?

Use Exit 6, then follow live navigation to the nearby Yeongdo-bound bus stop.

Which buses go to Huinnyeoul Culture Village?

Official visitor guidance commonly lists buses 7, 71, and 508. Confirm the current route and direction in Naver Map or KakaoMap.

Is Huinnyeoul Culture Village free?

The public lanes and coastal walk are generally free. Cafés, food, workshops, and private exhibits charge separately.

Is the village suitable for wheelchairs or strollers?

The upper road has accessible viewpoints, but the narrow lanes, stairways, and coastal trail make the complete route difficult.

Can I visit Gamcheon and Huinnyeoul on the same day?

Yes, but budget for transfers and many stairs. A more relaxed plan pairs Huinnyeoul with Nampo-dong and saves Gamcheon for another half-day.

Local takeaway: Start at Nampo Station Exit 6, take a live-verified Yeongdo bus, enter from the upper village, and decide how much of the coastal trail to walk before descending. That route gives you the sea views without turning the visit into an exhausting climb.
